A couple of weeks ago, I introduced Arianna to the magical world of Rainbow Brite. I looked it up on youtube and found "The Beginning of Rainbowland" (divided into like four segments). It was actually really fun watching it with her, and she loved it! I used to LOVE Rainbow Brite when I was a little girl!
So, while looking for some images to include here, I discovered that Hallmark has released a NEW Rainbow Brite. Seriously??
I'm not quite sure how to feel about this. I don't know if they're just producing merchandise, or if there's going to be some kind of show, too... (they have a little video clip on the website here.) I guess if the message is still focused around spreading color and happiness, it'll be better than a bunch of other shows that are out there now, right?? Still, some of me feels a little bothered by the modernization and tween-appealing look... Arianna and I will stick with the classic.
Anyway, I intended to write a small post about how it was fun to introduce Arianna to Rainbow Brite. I don't know what this has turned into, but I have the feeling it's kind of lame and at least slightly embarrassing.

No, not lame! I used to love rainbow brite myself! I also find it terrible that they feel the need to modernize and ruin the original by remaking it. but, as Carl says, the industry as a whole has run out of ideas, so they just remake someone elses.
I have to say that I agree with you completely. Also, it was really cool seeing the pictures of the original after all these years. :)
I am very convinced that the new one wont have the same magic appearence, but that is all the problem of modernisation...
Thanks to all of you for the comments about RainbowBrite, i used to enjoy them too in books, never seen them in cartoons, but definitely will watch the classic version on you tube!
Greetings!!
PS: I love RainbowBrite!
thank you for posting those rainbo brite pics.indeed, they brought back memories of great childhood days. i'm just deeply saddened by how the new Rainbow Brite Series look like. They don't evoke the same magical feelings like the classic ones do.imagine, i still feel the same looking at them for the first time after 23 years! wow! ;)
Hi there - I don't know you, but stumbled on your blog looking for an image of Rainbow Brite. She was my all-time favorite when I was little - I even had her record. I just wanted to tell you that I completely agree about the tween look and the new version of Rainbow. There's no improving perfection. :)
I alwo loved watching rainbow brite. I remember it being my fantasy to be storm and to ride over rainbows. Gone are the days of moral teachings from cartoons. *sigh
